Destroyer Captains Corner: An Open Discussion for DD Players

“Historians and critics too often overlook the state of mind of the commanders in judging a military or naval action.”
― Tameichi Hara

I’d like to thank WOWReplays for allowing me to post in this forum. I’d like to open by stating that I’m a die-hard DD player and as such I’d like to open a thread related to DD issues in general.

Overall I’m the type of DD player that plays fairly aggressively, that is, I like to go for the win. I enjoy DD’s as they can have such a massive impact on the game, but they are also the most fragile.

So where to start? The most recent patch, 0.6.4, has seen stealth firing go the way of the dodo bird, and I’m saddened. I don’t think it’s actually changed the initial goal of DD players, going for CAP’s or scouting; but it definitely affects my willingness to open fire in certain circumstances, and ultimately the damage I inflict overall. In many respects we are either negated to firing from smoke, playing hit and run behind islands, or learning to dodge incoming fire from multiple ships. Good luck with that, I find those skills a little beyond my reach. Overall I feel that the fun has been sucked out of DD play to some degree.

I’d encourage DD players to feel open to posting on any topic related to DD’s in general that you feel may be constructive. I too like to take a dig at BB captains for sailing floating torpedo targets, but I hope that we can, together, look at how DD playstyle could be improved in WOW. Topics such as strategy/tactics, game play, ship characteristics, captain skills/upgrades and changes to game mechanics, to improve the lot of DD players, would be well regarded.

I’ll try my best to keep in touch. Thanks… post away.

  1. Just desire to say your article is as surprising. The clearness to your post is simply excellent and
that i could assume you’re a professional in this
subject. Well with your permission let me to seize your RSS feed to stay updated
with forthcoming post. Thanks a million and please carry on the gratifying work.

    1. Cole is obviously a spammer, his post has absolutely nothing to do with the blog post he commented on, and says NOTHING about World of Warships.

DD play can be difficult and frustrating at times, but catching a BB by surprise with unexpected torps is always enjoyable. Battleships have gotten better about striking back, though. In the cat and mouse game of DD game play, the mouse (BB’s) is eating the cat (DD’s) a bit too often of late.
